Winchester's Pilgrim
Project type
Architecture
Date
May 2017
Location

Unit 302 Architectural Design: Integration, was to design a social housing scheme within Winchester. The ‘pilgrim’ social housing scheme of 41 mixed tenure homes with a community hall/ church at the end of the journey. The scheme is to bring together people from different social classes into a mixed community.
The idea behind the social housing scheme is about a pilgrim which was inspired by a trip to Lourdes. The journey may not just be seen as a religious/ spiritual journey, but taking a journey to a end destination. The church/centre is the point at which everyone will meet. It creates a community but also an attraction for the area of Stanmore, which is quite isolated from the rest of the city. The aim is to create a new lifestyle for those who live there locally and a connection between young and the old in the community.
