The Fragmentation Project.
Project type
Art, Urban Scenography, Public Realm
Fragmentation embodies my identity as a British, Nigerian and Zambian. Through a diasporic lens, I have embraced various aspects of my identity rather than subjecting it to a single narrative. Growing up in London, I witnessed a society that celebrated diversity yet struggled with divisions. This topic highlights both the richness of multifaceted identities and the separations within society. The theme of Fragmentation celebrates complex identities while addressing societal divisions. The organic blend of mark-making from my African heritage and architectural influences serves as a tribute to our evolving identities.
The patterns and designs have surfaced throughout my creative journey, mirroring the geometry found in African Native prints alongside architectural philosophies. Employing both hand-drawn and technical techniques to cultivate my style. My heritage inspires my pattern designs, blending geometric spontaneity with cohesion. Each piece may vary, yet together they tell a unified story. Back in 2020, the earliest commercial application of this technique was the ‘Bold Series,’ an illustration project featuring vibrant portraits. This work aimed to illuminate underrepresented voices in an engaging manner. These pieces gained recognition, leading to collaborations with notable clients such as Adidas, Christian Aid and Ezra Collective.
Throughout my journey as a Scenographer, I’ve found the greatest fulfilment in crafting work that impacts and transports people into alternate environments. In the progression of my practice, I aim to concentrate on developing engaging community projects that ensure accessibility to the arts. The focus is to create Urban Scenography that encourages performance, collaboration, and activity. Ensuring accessibility and inclusivity to streetscapes. The potential of creating public artworks allows me to leverage my expertise in Architecture, Visual Arts, Set and Production Design, to explore the concept of Fragmentation in the public realm.
